Milan

The Matić family wrote the book on hospitality in Pula, and even as a third generation gradually takes over this restaurant in the shadow of the Lungomare’s seaside pines, Milan remains a golden standard of Istrian seafood cuisine. An elegant interior exudes relaxed, intimate atmosphere while the kitchen, run by Davor, Katarina and Dean Matić, turns out the flavors of tradition with unfailing precision.
Even the cold appetizers are sufficient justification for a visit. In springtime, try the buzara of crabs on a slice of grilled polenta. Then try to maintain your composure when the dessert cart displaying Mama Loreta’s gorgeous cakes and tortes is wheeled over to tempt you. Heed the recommendations of sommelier Daniela when she lists highlights from the 350 wines in the cellar, or suggests whether the best olive oil for the carpaccio would be from Buža, Bjelica or Leccino olives. You can even stock up on a bottle or two of Terra Caviada oil from the family’s olive groves after dinner, and bring the taste of southern Istria into your own kitchen.
