Konoba Rustica

We went to Konoba Rustica for Sunday lunch one day in February, and were surprised how packed it was, mostly with Italians and Slovenians, who just adore to spend weekends in Istria. Although they serve pizza, this is not just another bland pizzeria you find all over Croatia. It is also an authentic Istrian konoba serving traditional Istrian fare, homemade pasta like fuži, pljukanci or cheese filled ravioli. But their specialty is lamb or veal slowly baked for hours under peka (traditional baking bell made of metal), which alone makes it worth paying a visit. They also serve excellent gibanica, cake indigenous to Međimurje region in the northwest Croatia, which is quite a clever choice as Istrian desserts are, to be honest, maybe too modest for modern palates.

In conclusion, here at Rustica you won’t find highly sophisticated dishes but honest, hearty dishes for a moderate price.
