Darko Pekica is not only the founder of Šikuti Machine artist collective, chronicler of the Istrian countryside and columnist of Istrian newspaper Glas Istre. He is also a small-scale organic farmer who owns twenty cows that lead a happy life in Svetvinčenat, a small village in South Istria, just a few kilometers north of Vodnjan.
From April 2013, Darko's unpasteurized milk is available from the first milk vending machine ever installed in Pula. One liter costs 7 kn, and for 3 kn you get a nice old-school glass bottle you can reuse for many, many years. I confirm it has a wonderful and mild flavor, not at all cowy-barny as sometimes happens with organic milk, so even the kids will love it. And since it is unpasteurized, it is perfect for making yogurt, kefir, cheese and other kinds of dairy produce at home.
