Experience traditional cuisine from Međimurje region in this friendly top-notch restaurant located near Čakovec, in an authentic 130-year-old wooden house. Try dishes with ingredients like buckwheat, wild mushrooms, nettle... The menu changes every month according to seasons. The recent one includes marinated duck breast, horse-radish soup, pumpkin gnocchi with sauerkraut and bacon, deer fillet, red cabbage rolls filled with cured pork shank and barley, roast apples filled with almonds, dried fruit, cinnamon and aniseed, plus many more... Pair it with excellent local wine from Međimurje. Even though the place looks a bit fancy and the service is impeccable, the prices are quite unexpectedly normal.

After "hard weekend" it's nice to eat something fresh and uplifting for breakfast. Simple and tasty bruscheta with crunchy bread, soft cheese and basil is a great way to start a day; add a red Balate spanish beer and your quicky back on the tracks. All together it's a great place to visit when you're in Zagreb with great taste & quality ratio.

I finally know what to tell first-time visitors in Zagreb when they ask where they can get their greens: at Nishta. A nice interior, helpful staff whose Balkan English just adds to the charm and filling portions of innovative veggie combinations. All in all, a delicious bargain. The chickpea burgers blew my mind and our vegetarian guest now regrets not living in Zagreb. And he's French - you know how critical they get!

Last impressions Warm atmosphere in rustic house

Located just a few meters from The State Stud Farm known for famous Lipizzan horses, this is the place to eat when visiting Đakovo. We called in advance just for info and luckily caught a place on the terrace. A fireplace for peka and carp between branches add a warm touch to this restaurant. It seemed that waiter wasn’t too interested in us so we had to go and ask can we get menus. But, later we got nice attention. The menu is a bit overloaded and shuffling between traditional and classic dishes is not doing a favor to this rustic atmosphere. One side with a fish and venison stews, river fish while the other offers classic grill and calamari meals. Makes us sad. We ordered pike-perch orly style and grilled chicken skewers wrapped in homemade bacon with potato and swiss chard as a side dish. Considering their advertising as a restaurant/vinoteque, wine list is quite unimpressive. White wines – Đakovačka vina graševina and traminer by the glass. We weren’t into red wines but Feravino frankovka is a good choice. Just a few premium wines on the list don’t do Slavonian wines a favor. On the other hand, poking us right in the eye, there was Ivan Dolac, a wine from Hvar. Not that Ivan Dolac plavac mali isn’t great wine, but Slavonia offers beautiful rich red wines that should have their place on this wine list, and would probably accompany the food much better. We went for graševina by Đakovačka vina to taste a local winery. We failed miserably. Bad choice, this graševina is an underestimation of this great wine variety. Just for the note, Misna vina and Apostol are from Đakovo and offer great wines!
