Large bottom-dwelling fish whose name comes from the flat head with two pairs of barbels resembling cat's whiskers. Catfish aka som is a trophy fish for alas (Danube fishermen) as it tends to grow very large and is very strong, making it an interesting sports catch. Supposedly they fight like a tuna or a marlin. Best way to eat it is cooked in a fish paprikash, a traditional fish stew of the region or deep fried coated in a mixture of corn flour and ground paprika.
