Poderane gaće (pronounced poh-deh-rahne gache) aka 'ripped underpants' aka Langošice aka Lepinjice is a type of a fried dough dish usually made in Slavonia and fried in pork fat or oil. If you ever go to any country fair anyplace in Croatia, you will see them floating in oil and frying until golden. This imaginative name comes from their shape, which is usually an irregular square with odd holes here and there. This dish is often made at home too, with a dollop of sour cream, cottage cheese, bit of bacon and onion or even sweetened with homemade jam. Purists claim that Poderane gaće should aways be sweet, but so far no scientific data or statistics on this dish prove this claim.
