Soup - wherever you might be in Croatia, whatever the time of the year, you can always get soup. Actually, not can, but must. Soup is supposed to warm up your stomach for all the heavy food that comes after, as well be miraculously healthy for the person eating. The most common variety is the clear bouillon, beef or chicken or even fish based, depending where you are. There could be some tiny bits of pasta in it, or even rice. Parsley, maybe. Second most common version is tomato. Every other version, any kind of cream soup, mushroom soup, minestrone or anything else is considered extravagant and excessive for the old-school types.
